How to screen calls on an iPhone

Life’s busy enough without wasting time on calls that are trying to scam you or sell to you. Unfortunately, stats from Hiya show that 28 percent of the calls you get are going to be suspected spam or fraud.

On an iPhone, you don’t have the option to have an AI assistant answer calls for you, as you can on Android — at least not yet. But there are ways to screen calls to some extent and cut down on the number of scammers, sellers, and robots you have to talk to.

These guidelines have been written using an iPhone 15 Pro Max running iOS 18.2.

Your Apple Watch Just Got a Simple But Helpful New Feature

Apple recently released software updates to all its devices. The one making the most headlines is iOS 18.2, as it delivers a lot of new features to your iPhone (check them out here).

And while the Apple Watch‘s newest software update, watchOS 11.2, didn’t deliver anywhere near as many new features, it did bring one that’s actually quite useful … specifically if you use an Apple Watch to control your iPhone’s camera.

Airlines Quickly Embrace Airtag Sharing to Help You Find Your Lost Luggage

It’s only been a week since Apple launched iOS 18.2 to the public, and 14 airlines have already signed on to support a key new feature that will allow them to help passengers locate lost luggage.

In November, Apple released a beta of iOS 18.2 that included the ability to share AirTag locations using public links, with a description that suggested you could “Get help finding your lost AirTag by sharing its location with an airline or a trusted person.” At that time, the reference to an airline seemed like more of a helpful suggestion — that you could offer an AirTag’s location to assist them in tracking a lost bag — but it seems that Apple had something more exciting up its sleeve.

ChatGPT for Mac can now draft notes and debug your code

ChatGPT’s Mac app is getting a big usability boost. It will now work directly with coding and note-taking apps, including Apple Notes, Notion, and others.

Previously, the ChatGPT Mac app could only see, read, and improve code in XCode, Terminal, and selected other apps.

ChatGPT Mac app can help you code smarter and faster

As part of its 12 Days of OpenAI announcement, the ChatGPT team announced expanded support for third-party apps, enabling it to read content from apps like Notion, Quip, and TextMate. This allows you to use ChatGPT to improve your rough draft, ask for suggestions to improve or debug your code, and more. Even better, the ChatGPT Mac app can read content from multiple apps simultaneously.

How to get the battery percentage back on iPhone

Being able to see your iPhone battery percentage right in the status bar is incredibly useful. You can keep an eye on it throughout the day if you’re getting low and need to top up.

The standard battery icon gives you a rough idea of where your iPhone stands. But instantly seeing the exact battery percentage number can give you peace of mind. It’s useful seeing the precise number without pulling down Control Center or checking a battery widget, wherever you are.

For those of you with real battery anxiety, you can even add a widget to your Lock Screen and Home Screen. I’ll show you how.

How to avoid car sickness when using your iPhone

Car sickness can quickly ruin a journey by road. If it’s something you’re susceptible to, then you’ve probably learned to avoid reading while traveling—whether it’s a digital screen or a paperback book.

There might be times when you can’t avoid looking up something on your iPhone—if you need to check an address, for example. With iOS 18, Apple has introduced a new feature called Vehicle Motion Cues that should reduce the chance of car sickness, and it only takes a couple of minutes to set up.

We’ll show you here how it works, so you can give it a try. At the time of writing, there’s no such feature built into Android—though there are indications that one is on the way.

How to blur a face in a video on your iPhone for privacy

The best way to hide one or more faces in a video clip is by using third-party apps. I tested over 15 free-to-download video editing apps on my iPhone that claim to blur parts of a video. From those, I’ve listed the best one below. Give it a try and see which works best for your needs.

Blur Video

While some features in this app require payment, its core functions are free to use. Additionally, even the free version saves the final video in its original resolution without adding a watermark. For these reasons, we’ve placed it at the top of the list.

The wait is over for some of the most anticipated Apple Intelligence features. Apple released iOS 18.2 on Dec. 11, and the update brings a whole host of AI to your iPhone -- if you have a compatible one. Genmoji, Visual Intelligence and ChatGPT integrated Siri are just a few of the new features you'll see on your iPhone if you have iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max or a device from the iPhone 16 lineup. Even if you have another iPhone, you'll still get new features, like an update to your Mail app.

APPLE WATCH USERS CAN EASILY TRACK MEDICATION & GET DOSE REMINDERS - HERE'S HOW

The Apple Watch is, understandably, a bit more limited in its capabilities than those larger devices, though some handy tips and tricks can help you get the most out of the device. While owners are apt to make frequent use of the device's calling, texting, and internet functionality, some even utilize the watch as an actual timepiece. When paired with an iPhone or iPad, the Apple Watch can become an integral part of your tech array.

Here’s Everything Coming in iOS 18.2 Next Week

The timing lines up with everything we’ve heard about iOS 18.2 over the past few weeks. During its Glowtime event in September, Apple promised that support for more English dialects would be coming to Apple Intelligence in December, and as far back as the summer, Apple CEO Tim Cook promised ChatGPT integration would arrive by the end of 2024.

Both of these things appeared in the very first iOS 18.2 beta in October, around the same time Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman revealed that Apple was planning to release iOS 18.2 in the first week of December. He later adjusted that to the week of December 9, although early December was always an obvious timeframe as Apple prefers not to issue major software releases too close to the holidays.

Since release candidates typically precede final releases by a week, it’s a safe bet that iOS 18.2 is coming next week. If Apple follows its usual schedule, that could mean next Thursday, December 12, but Apple could surprise us by pushing it out a bit earlier.

How to Use an External Storage Device With an iPhone or iPad

Over time, Apple has gradually made it easier to use external storage with an iPhone or iPad, giving you more options when it comes to transferring files to and from your Apple device. As of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, you can format external drives too, reducing your reliance on a computer even further.

Most storage options that work with your computer will work with your iDevice as well, including USB hubs and memory cards. As per Apple's guidelines, storage devices must have a single partition and be formatted as APFS, APFS (encrypted), macOS Extended (HFS+), exFAT (FAT64), FAT32, or FAT.
