Vitals is one of the best Apple Watch apps I’ve used in year

A little over two months ago, Apple held its WWDC 2024 conference and unveiled a lot of new software features. There was plenty to sink your teeth into, but my favorite announcement of the show was watchOS 11.

Why? Because watchOS 11 adds features I’ve been hoping to see on the Apple Watch for ages — such as the ability to pause activity rings and showing you more robust training/exercise data. It also adds the new Vitals app. I’ve been using Vitals on my Apple Watch Ultra 2 for a couple of weeks now, and it’s everything I had hoped the app would be.

How to rotate your iPhone or iPad screen without moving your device

The easiest way to rotate your iPhone or iPad screen is by physically tilting the device. As long as the Orientation Lock toggle isn't turned on, you can easily switch between Portrait and Landscape mode. In addition, you can force the iPhone or iPad screen to rotate by opening a full-screen video on YouTube or Apple TV+.

However, there's another method for rotating your iPhone or iPad screen, and you don't even need to move your device to do it. In this article, we'll teach you how to do that and explain when using this feature might come in handy.

When Was the Last Time You Cleared Your iPhone Cache?

You're browsing the web on your iPhone, reading about the latest iPhone 16 rumors when you notice that things look a little off. Images are misshapen, some information is missing. You might be wondering what's going on.  Instead, you should be asking: When was the last time you cleared your cache?

Your browser cache stores website data for faster retrieval, which can keep things a little snappier when everything matches up. But over time page elements might change -- new images, different layouts, etc. -- and that's when problems can pop up.

Apple Intelligence is coming. Here’s what it means for your iPhone

Artificial intelligence (AI) is coming to your iPhone soon and, according to Apple, it’s going to transform the way you use your device. Launching under the brand name “Apple Intelligence” the iPhone maker’s AI tools include a turbocharged version of its voice assistant, Siri, backed by a partnership with ChatGPT owner OpenAI.

Apple isn’t the first smartphone maker to launch AI. The technology is already available on smartphones including Google’s latest Pixel and Samsung’s Galaxy range.

Yet the vast amounts of data needed by AI are leading to concerns about data privacy. Apple has built its reputation on privacy – its ad states “Privacy. That’s iPhone” – so this is an area where the firm claims it is different.

Slow iPhone? How to Fix a Sluggish Device in Minutes

Is your iPhone feeling sluggish? Over time, it's normal for your iPhone (or any phone) to start slowing down, particularly with age. It might mean it's time to bid your current iPhone goodbye and splash out for a new one (after trading in), but often the issue of a sluggish iPhone might be within your control. The solution could be as simple as clearing out your storage space, among other possibilities. No, not that storage space. Your iPhone's "Other" storage.

Get Help in an Emergency with a Medical ID on iPhone

While a medical alert bracelet or a medical ID card in your wallet may help in an emergency, there's one more tool you can use to ensure you receive the prompt care you need—your iPhone! Even if you keep your iPhone locked with a passcode or Face ID, it's still possible to have your Medical ID visible on your smartphone so that bystanders and emergency personnel can assist you in a medical emergency. Let's get started learning how to set up the Medical ID on iPhone.

I never travel without my Apple Watch because of this one feature

I’ve been traveling a lot this year. Thanks to seemingly endless work trips that have seen me fly 36,000-plus miles so far in 2024 — and with many more trips yet to come — I’ve spent much of this year walking through airports, having dinner in Delta Sky Clubs, and trying (and failing) to sleep on red eyes.

As much as I enjoy traveling, I’ll be the first to admit that it can also be hectic. Thankfully, I’ve enjoyed far more good travel days than bad ones, and a large part of that has been thanks to my Apple Watch. It’s a great all-around smartwatch, but it’s also a phenomenal travel assistant that I wouldn’t want to fly without.

How to Find Your iPhone Even if It's Turned Off

There's no way around it: Losing your phone is stressful. Luckily, if you have an iPhone, you can view its location on another device even if it's turned off. That's because iPhones can leverage Apple's Find My Network, which crowdsources other nearby Apple devices in an anonymous and encrypted way to relay your phone's location to iCloud.

Offline finding isn't new to the iPhone, but Apple has made improvements to its Find My service and its theft protection offerings over time. In last year's iOS 17 update, for example, it introduced the ability to share Find My-supported devices, such as an AirTag, with up to five other people. Earlier this year, Apple launched Stolen Device Protection as an additional measure to prevent thieves that also know your passcode from accessing crucial information.

Syncing your iPhone with your iPad is a great way to improve your workflow. Doing so allows you to seamlessly access your apps, documents, and photos on both devices. We'll teach you how to set it up.

How to Identify Plants with an iPhone in 4 Simple Steps

As plant lovers, we're always stopping to smell the roses—literally. But it can be hard to identify plants in the wild, and Googling "pink flower with spiky things around it" doesn't typically get the job done. Given all the plant-care apps out there, don't you wish there was some kind of iPhone plant identifier that could nip this problem in the bud? Fortunately for us, there is!

Apple finally lets you transfer Google Photos to iCloud — here's how
Three years after Apple and Google teamed up to create a tool for transferring photos from iCloud to Google Photos, the option to go the other direction is available.

The two tech giants collaborated again to make a data portability tool that enables users to transfer from Google Photos to iCloud Photos, as reported by 9to5Mac.

The cooperative effort is part of the Data Transfer Project, an open-source initiative focused on data portability. A blog post on the DTP website said the new tool would be rolled out over the next week.

What iPhone model do I have? How to figure it out

The iPhone has changed a lot since it first launched in 2007, but that doesn't mean it's easy to tell one iPhone from another. Those of you who don't pay close attention to every Apple event likely won't be able to see the nuanced differences between the many iPhone models. The changes are obvious when comparing the original iPhone to the iPhone 15, but it's not as easy to distinguish between the iPhone 14 and iPhone 15 models unless you are an iPhone superfan (or a technology journalist).

Apple Mac fans are holding onto their computers for longer – here’s why

Have you found yourself reluctant to upgrade your Mac because it’s still happily chugging away? You might not be alone, as a new survey indicates that people are keeping their Macs longer than ever, with users more hesitant to upgrade or replace their Apple computers compared to the past.

iCloud Private Relay vs a VPN | What Are The Differences?

Apple’s iCloud Private Relay has been in the news this week due to an ongoing outage that began on Thursday afternoon and is still impacting some folks 48 hours later. Nevertheless, iCloud Private Relay is a very handy feature when it’s working properly — which is most of the time, to be fair — but it’s also so integrated into your iPhone and other Apple devices that you may not even be fully aware of what it is and what it does.

Charge Your iPhone Faster with These 10 Tips

Everyone knows that the iPhone isn't at the top of the smartphone market when it comes to battery life. Not only does it not have the biggest battery, but it also isn't the fastest-charging phone in the world.

Of course, that doesn't mean it can't charge quickly. For the most part, your iPhone will be ready to go as soon as you are. With that said, there may be times when you want your iPhone to charge as fast as possible.

3 Signs Your iPhone May Have Been Hacked

Fortunately, iPhones are difficult to hack. Apple continues to prioritize security. Its closed ecosystem gives it a leg up from Android when it comes to overall digital privacy and safety.

However, despite Apple’s robust security features, the iPhone isn’t entirely immune to successful hacking attempts. Being aware of the signs your iPhone has been hacked or is being attacked can help you take immediate action to protect your information and regain control.

How to use Time Machine to back up a Mac

Imagine the worst. Losing irreplaceable photos because your Mac’s drive failed? Accidentally deleting your dissertation? You might think it will never happen to you, but all it takes is a glass of water falling onto your MacBook and you could lose everything.

But at least if you’ve got a backup, the financial outlay of getting a new Mac will be made less traumatic by the fact that you can recover everything from your old one. Luckily Apple makes backing up your Mac really easy, so there really is no excuse not to do it.
